What we collect when you contact the firm or read this site, why we hold it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Last updated {{ lastUpdated }}. Governed by the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the Rules of Professional Conduct.
Who holds your data
Firmpoint Attorneys LP is the data controller. We practise from Old Water Corporation Yard, 1 Ijaiye Road, Ogba, Ikeja 102212, Lagos. Questions about this policy go to the partner named in section ten.
What we collect
Only what a matter needs. Three routes bring data to us.
Why, and on what basis
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 we must name a lawful basis for each use. Ours are these.
Conflict checks
Before the firm can advise, we check the names you give us against matters we already hold. That check is the reason the intake form asks for the parties involved, and it is why we keep a short record even of enquiries we cannot take on.
Sending the form does not create a lawyer-client relationship. That begins only when we have cleared the conflict check and confirmed terms with you in writing.
How long we keep it
Six years runs from the close of the matter, matching the period in which a claim could still be brought. We may keep a file longer where a dispute is live or the law requires it.
Your rights
You can ask us to do any of the following, free of charge, and we will answer within one month.
- Tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy.
- Correct anything inaccurate or incomplete.
- Delete it, or restrict what we do with it.
- Withdraw consent for anything we do on that basis, including cookies.
- Object to a use, or ask for your data in a portable form.
Two limits apply. We cannot delete what we must keep by law or by professional rule, and we cannot release material that would breach another client's privilege. Where we refuse, we say why.
Your cookie choices
There are no cookie choices to make at present. If we add analytics or any other optional cookies in future, we will update this notice and ask for your consent first.
